My great great grandfather fought in ww1 and in his wife’s book it said “He did not like to talk about the war” “But he was the sweetest man” The only mention of the war I heard was “My dad went to the British reserves and he told me I should join the war, and I did. I sold everything and I was scared it was going to end by the time I got the England from South Africa the war would be over. But it went on for 4 brutal years…” That’s really the only mention of the war. Wait there is one more. He said he was out with his friends in England and the next day he wanted to join the Royal Air Corps but he was Hungover😅 so he joined the royal artillery regiment. He survived the war but passed in 1937 due to yellow fever or pneumonia. So yeah that’s what the book said.
A brave man, they rarely spoke about their experiences, too much horror to recall. We owe them so much. May he rest in peace. "At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them" Blue 🌍
Yes we own a lot of respect not just to my great great grandfather but all the soldiers that served no matter what side they were on.
